Sweet heaven! Looks like we made it!
Copacabana week fairly flew by. The New York City Rhythm is fading faster than the showgirl’s fake tans.
We would love to say the words, why don’t you see the show again, but it’s all behind us now, leaving glitter and false eyelash withdrawal symptoms in its wake, and that’s just the men’s chorus!
Even now the cast are thinking, “Where do I go from here?”
But that’s an easy one to answer.
With one voice we say that very soon we will be starting again, with beautiful music and when October comes we’ll be trying to get the feeling again when we perform Rodgers and Hammerstein’s (…or is it Steen?) classic the Sound of Music.
On a serious note, to everyone who supported the show –cast, crew, audience, sponsors, local businesses – we would like to say a big thank you.
[How many Barry Manilow song titles can you spot in this post?]
Ed. update 08/04/13 - there are 14 Barry Manilow songs in the post ... did you spot them?
One week to go until Opening Night! We finally get to see our costumes at Costume Call on Tuesday. There are over 200 costumes, with some people having four or more. Most are hired, but our Wardrobe Mistress has also been hard at work, making some for the “Havana” number. We will be running the show in costume this week so that we can make sure everything works & can be altered before Opening Night if necessary.
Everything will start to feel ‘real’ on Sunday when we do our final dress rehearsal in full make-up & costume & also have the band in the orchestra pit.
While writing this I heard that snow & ice has been forecast for this coming week, so spare a thought for us Show Girls & dancers wearing tiny costumes in sub-zero temperatures-might have to wear the thermal vest & long johns instead...
Watch this space for updates on final preparations..
